Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes says United should forget about what has happened in the past few weeks and focus on what is ahead of them.
The Red Devils sit seventh on the English Premier League log with 24 points after their miserable season was compounded by a 1-0 loss to Newcastle on Sunday.
In the Champions League, they are at the brink of elimination as they sit bottom of group A with just four points garnered in their five games.
“At the moment we just have to look game-by-game because we know we are not in the position we want to be,” Fernandes said in an in-depth interview with Manchester United media.
“Focusing game-by-game is what we can control at the moment and we can’t look too much at the table.
“You can look too much at the future and not do the present right.
“We have to raise ourselves for the next challenge we have ahead.
“We’re not in the place we want to be in the league – everyone knows that. So if you want to get into that place, if you want to improve that position, then you have to win the game you have ahead.”
Manchester United’s next season challenge is a league game against rejuvenated Chelsea. The two sides will face off at Old Trafford, and Fernandes and his team will hope to better fortunes against a side that has looked good playing against ‘big sides’ this season.
Chelsea beat Tottenham Hotspurs, and drew against Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool despite sitting 10th in the league.
United will then after Chelsea face Bournemouth, Bayern Munich (in the Champions League), Liverpool, West Ham, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest in the busy period of December.
